In Development Now

The king whose city the dragon destroyed…
The mother who told her children about the beast…
The hero that slew it…
The cultist who worshipped its bones…
The new king whose scepter is carved from those same bones…

All these lives are part of the story of the dragon. You tell its story by exploring theirs.

Microscope Chronicle is an alternate version of Microscope where you make the history of a single thing, like a frontier town, a legendary sword, or an old space freighter.

But it is also much more focused on people and their lives. We'll make multiple characters throughout the history and then see how they are intertwined with the Chronicle.

And just like normal Microscope, you don't create the history in chronological order, you build it from the outside in, jumping back and forth in time to explore the parts that interest you.

Microscope Chronicle was originally released as part of Microscope Explorer, but I'm going back and revising it from the ground up so it can live up to its true potential. I'm also using it as a testing ground to try out improvements to Microscope, including new scene rules among other things.

In some ways I envision Chronicle as a faster and easier Microscope, since it has a much tighter focus. This new version will be a standalone game, so you don't need the original Microscope book in order to play.

It's in development now, and early sign-up for the playtest is now open, so you'll be notified when it starts. You can also join the announcement mailing list if you just want to know when the game is ready, or follow my blog, ars ludi for all the behind-the-scenes details.
